In my previous blog, I discussed Lactose Free Protein Shakes. To finish my #FITGIRL story, I want to tell you about Protein bars now. Something a real #FITDUTCHIE needs to know. Bars come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, flavors and brands. One thing is for sure, they are not cheap and not all of them a delicious treat.
A little bit of lactose…
I am lactose intolerant myself, but I tolerate a little bit of lactose. So if I eat a protein bar that contains lactose, I will be just fine. Believe me; there are some really AWESOME protein bars; just mouthwatering! Especially those with a thick layer of chocolate inside and out, with crunchy pieces of peanut butter and/or nuts… mmmm Do you like the sound of that? The ones I describe above contain quite a lot of chocolate, but in that case I am fine with a stomach ache.
What if you really can’t tolerate even a little bit of lactose? Or you are vegan? And you have a graving for something sweet but nutritious? Well, you probably guest it already; THEY EXIST!
I would like to write a very enthusiastic and positive blog about these bars, but I want to be realistic too. There is not a huge choice. I’ve used all my Google and detective skills, but unfortunately the assortment is not as big as the lactose free protein shakes. Also, you really need to search, not all known FIT stores have them, some bars have just a small amount of protein, or you have to buy a dozen at ones.
But, here they are! And in different flavors too (let’s get positive). In my previous blog, I described which different proteins can be used without lactose; Soya protein isolate and pea protein for example.
Rice protein is used a lot as a main ingredient in protein bars.
What to pay attention to?
The differences in bars you can pay attention to are the amounts of protein per bar, whether they use natural ingredients, and the amount of calories one bar provides. Think about what matters most to you: the amount of proteins, natural products, the taste and texture? The ones you see above is the “Power bar Natural Protein” bar. This is vegan, lactose free and contains 30% protein! That’s a lot in a bar, I can tell you.
They come in several flavors and yes, also with chunks of chocolate! I chose this one because I can order them one bar/flavor at a time. That way, you can try one flavor before you get stuck with 12 pieces, and you need to toss them all away or hand them out to friends… Nobody wants that; such a waist!
Finally, and perhaps the most important thing, the bar tasted delicious! Look at my happy face!
